This homemade costume for kids entered our 2015 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Ute, the 'The Washing Machine' costume creator:
My very imaginative five-year-old son loves appliances and 'playing house'. When I asked him what he wanted to be for Halloween he said "a washing machine". As you can imagine, they don't make too many toddler appliance costumes, let alone a washing machine. Therefore I had no other choice but to make one.
Costume instructions:
Big cardboard box
Spray paint (your color choice)
A sharp knife for a grown-up to use to cut head and arm holes
Hot glue gun
The lid of a plastic bowl to use as the door
Line the circumference of the door with tinfoil to look like a stainless steel frame
Images from the Internet of the different settings buttons and a logo
I used a small toy laundry basket and clothes pins and attached it to the top
Miscellaneous clothes items hot glue gun to the top of the box
I had a small sample size bottle of the laundry detergent that I also attached to the top
Used an old TV dial as the on/off dial for the front of the washing machine
Used a small drawer from our own toy washing machine as the drawer to put laundry detergent or fabric softener in
Hung a small clothes hanger on the front of costume
An article of clothing for your child to wear on their head to finish off the costume
Entire costume cost approximately $30 and it took about 3 hours to make. This is probably my most favorite costume that I ever made for my son!
