A word from Kristin, the 'The Young Maleficent' costume creator:
My daughter faith wanted to be something spectacular this year. So we searched around and decided that she kinda looked like maleficent when she was young and just went with it. The only item for the costume that was purchased is the horns for her head and the horns for her wings. The dress was fabric I picked out at Joanns and sewed together using a mossy tulle for the collar and arms. The pouch was made with a remnant of suede fabric, and the necklace and bracelet was a fall floral pick that I took apart and wrapped around some hemp. Underneath the dress is a harness that we made using nylon belting and strap adjusters. We made a large pocket in the back where we inserted the tab that my husband welded on the wings. The wings started with a frame that was welded together with cold rolled plain steel, and piping foam around the frame to give it the desired shape. We then took a twin foam topper cut it out to the shape of the wings and layered it do that we could cut it down to make it look 3 dimensional. Then we covered the wings with cotton fabric using headliner spray (sticky stuff). Once that was dry and made into the desired shape and length we started applying the horns (spirit Halloween) and the feathers ( moonlight feathers). We ordered 1/4 pound of duck feathers and about 50 large turkey rounds. There was so much time and materials and money that went into her costume, but she was very happy with how it came out,as were we.
