A word from Brandi, the 'The Knight' costume creator:
My four year old son, Fox, is wearing this costume that was 95% homemade. He wanted to be a knight for Halloween and I wasn't impressed by the store-bought costumes and knew I could make a really cool one. I made most of the costume out of foam, cardboard and spray paint. The only part that is not made, is the sword.
A few tips I used while making this costume:
Foam is very flexible and light. If you hold it over heat, (e.g. a stove top) it will become even more bendable. If you bend it into a certain shape while its warm and let it cool, it will stay in that shape.
Putting a few coats of a glue and water mixture on the foam makes it less porous and easier to paint.
My supply list: Foam ($7 for a pack), Paint ($18 for a few cans), Cardboard (free), Sword ($10), Cloth glue ($4), Super glue ($3), Feathers ($3)... Total cost: $45!
