A word from Alexandra, the 'The Monster Under the Bed' costume creator:
My friend and I are really into Halloween, I have been my whole life, anything spooky I am about. We wanted to plan a costume this year that was not only scary, but even more so something relatable. Which got us thinking... who hasn't jumped into bed with the passing thought of something lurking underneath it ready to grab your ankle? NO ONE! Absolutely everyone has had that thought. There you have it, the birth of our thought. So I designed and drew out the monster. We made the bed simply out of nailing a few pieces of wood together, getting a small dog bed for the mattress, ripping and bloodying some sheets and adding a creepy porcelain doll. This is not a mask. I got clay and made molds of the eyebrows, cheekbones, lip and ear parts, and layered them with liquid latex. This was very simple and was in fact my first time using liquid latex that I got from a costume store. When ready I peeled the pieces off, painted them, and later applied them to my face. I put wire in my own hair, French braided it backwards and dyed it. I also added fake hair around my face. I got eerie creature contacts to make my gaze more penetrating. The hands were made entirely from newspaper and simply paper mache (water and flour,) painted and hair applied. I made some gold chains for my mouth to make it look like I was being held back, as well as body chains. We put the bed on my friends back and I crawled underneath her as the monster beneath! It was time consuming but not too difficult and a lot of fun. Anyone can do this costume with their own spin on it and some elbow grease.
