A word from Ashley, the 'TMNT' costume creator:
My husband and I and our friends Brandi and Mike. The idea came from me, but my husband and Brandi have always been fans of the TMNT. Brandi's mom made her a Raphael costume when she was a child. Her mom passed away a couple years ago.
Brandi and I made the costumes but purchased some of the accessories such as the weapons, green tights, green shoes on the ladies, and suspenders. We purchased solid green shirts/shorts and we painted the shells on the shirts. We painted the shells on our backs and we made the tutus out of and elastic band and tulle. You can Google how to make a no-sew tutut. It's very easy but takes time! We made the eye masks, arm bands, and knee bands from cutting up t-shirts. We purchased white knee high socks and used fabric spray paint for Trace and Mike's socks. We made the belts out of ribbon and the medallion out of cardboard.
It cost around $50 per person to make the costume. We spent many hours finding the material to make the costumes and actually making the costumes. It was a ton of fun though and we felt great knowing we made them ourselves!
