A word from Jennifer, the 'Tom Hanks from Castaway' costume creator:
Tom Hanks from "Castaway"
Caiden, my miniature pinscher, is dressed as Tom Hanks from the movie "Castaway". The reason why I chose to make this costume is, one, Castaway is one of Tom Hank's "classic" movies and I love it! Two, Caiden is an older dog, so his "look" in this costume fit the theme so well! One word that everyone said when seeing this costume is…"WILSON!" Everyone who saw it laughed out loud and thought it was great!
How To:
Raft:
You will need a moving dolly, some logs or 3-4 inch branches, rope, a volley ball, red paint, hay, card board, green-blue paint, 1 fed-ex box and gold paper/markers. To make the raft, cut the wood branches to fit the moving dolly and screw them down. To make "Wilson" volley ball, take red paint and use your hand to make the face. Cut a hole in the bottom of the ball and stick it onto a branch and screw it to the raft. Hot glue hay/corn husks to top. To make the sail, cut the cardboard and paint it. Make the "wings" for both the fed-ex box and the sail out of gold paper and glue them down. Have fun getting the fed-ex box and "wilson" ball covered in mud too!
Costume:
Very simple! I got a light brown wavy fur from a craft store and basically cut a hole in the middle of it so that it would fit around my dog's head. Then I shaped the beard part and hot-glued any areas that stuck out to round it a bit. For the "skirt", all you need is brown cotton fabric, cut a small piece and tie it to the side.
