A word from Aleah, the 'Ursula the Sea Witch' costume creator:

I've always been a huge fan of Disney. Since crafting is also one of my passions I decided to try my very first completely homemade costume with one of my all time favorite movies, The Little Mermaid. I had never made a costume like this before but had a picture in my mind of what I wanted it to look like. I was so inspired that I spent an entire day sewing all of my tentacles. I made tentacle patterns out of Notebook paper and started sewing them. After one day (13 hours straight) of sewing, I had all of them made. I worked on the eel "scarf" over the course of 2 months. I started with floral foam from the dollar store. Carved it to the proper shape and used ping pong balls for their eyes. I then wrapped the foam in foil so it wouldn't shed into my clay. Once that was done I used air paper clay so that they would be super light weight. I covered the heads and then eventually hooked them on to a fleece tube that I sewed a yarn "mane" all the way down. I stuffed all of the tentacles with pillow stuffing and thick wire to hold their shape. 2 of my tentacles I sewed finger loops on to with the optional button on the side of my dress if I didn't want the tentacles on my fingers... I found an old blue prom dress at a thrift store and cut off the bottom for the "water" at the foot of my dress. I bought a large snail shell on eBay and painted it gold as well as hooked it to a necklace. The shell earrings were made using sculpy clay and just twisting it into a cone like shape. I then hooked earring pieces onto them so they were wearable. The only part of my costume that I didn't make was the wig. I lost exact track but I estimate this costume cost me around $350 USD to make. I had so much fun making this and live wearing it during Halloween.
