A word from Lydia, the 'Ursula' costume creator:
I am wearing a costume inspired by Ursula in The Little Mermaid. I sewed my octopus "skirt" from Black and purple satin triangles. I double-seamed each "leg" and threaded electric fence wire (from the tractor store) into the resulting pocket to make the legs posable. The "suckers" are foam circles I cut out and stapled on - fun fact! They actually did stick to wood floors from a suction effect!
I used a strapless bodysuit I already owned, and topped it with a purple "steampunk" waist corset I ordered from Amazon which doubled to keep the "skirt" up. I connected 4 of the "legs" to my wrists with clear elastic to have some movement in the legs. I mounted stuffed Moray eels on some CPVC from the hardware store and attached the eels with more fence wire. I ziptied the CPVC apparatus to my by waist under the corset my hair is pinned to a piece of chicken wire I recycled out of a bouquet, and sprayed white and purple. I did the makeup myself. For my sea shell necklace I used a real sea shell. I super glued a pair of cheap light-up Halloween earrings inside so I could make it light up! I made the earrings with real sea shells too! I didn't follow any kind of a pattern for the costume, I just tried to capture the essence of the character. I probably spent about 30 hours creating this, and spent maybe $100-$150 on supplies. It was super fun to make and got a great response!
