A word from Bonnie, the 'Minecraft inspired Stampy' costume creator:
2014 Costume for my granddaughter Alana. Inspired by one of her favorite video games, Mindcraft. We collected cardboard boxes, construction paper, glue and tape for weeks. Alana drew out her ideas and we started assembling the pieces. The face is covered in painted mesh so she could see out and breath but persons looking at her see the painted eyes, nose and mouth, it also had side screens so she had peripheral vision. The head is held in place by a cardboard "hat" that we hid on the inside and tied under her chin. The chest is held in place by a hidden suspenders set up. In order to allow movement we left the knee and elbow joints open...She really hammed it up and staying in character the whole night. She carried a 'cake' for collecting candy and sword (made from cut and painted foam) like the video game character. She was the biggest hit at the neighborhood block party...people were constantly stopping her to get a photo..she called them her paparazzi ;-). We did use a lot of recycled cardboard but other supplies cost about $25. Labor was in the area of 80 hours or $800 if we hadn't been on grandmother (Mammaw) time;-)
