A word from Jared, the 'Walking Dead' costume creator:
My 'Walking Dead' inspired zombie costume from last year took a little over three hours to put together with the help of my sister. We started out with a pale base, then we used latex caulk to create my open wounds. "I had to sacrifice some of my beard for the scratch marks. :( But, it grew back! I wasn't going to risk hairs being pulled out when removing the caulk." We used a Karo Syrup and red food coloring mixture for the blood that we applied to the wounds. For the forehead wound we applied some melted Certo fruit pectin and dried oatmeal. For the rotted nose look, we applied thin strips of wet tissue paper that we wrinkled up and blow dried. We then added some black and green makeup for the dark circles around the eyes and the overall ‘rotting flesh’ finish of the nose and rest of the face. We finished by adding a generous amount of cheap conditioner to my hair and blood splatter to my clothes, hand, ears, etc. I then smeared some brown, black, and green makeup over my clothes just to give it that extra weathered look. It took some time, but was well worth it by the gawking of people throughout the town and at the party. Now you can 'stagger' to the drug store and try this homemade zombie costume out yourself!
