A word from Leila, the 'Mario Kart' costume creator:
This is my 4 year old son who loves Mario (really ... who doesn’t!). I asked him what he’d like to look like and he said “Mario driving” ... so that’s where “Mario Kart” came into play! I made everything on his wheelchair by hand. I cut and molded thick cardboard around the front and back of his wheelchair. At this point there was lots of measuring to get it to fit around his wheelchair perfectly. Once I finished measuring, I then cut the cardboard and I hot glued the pieces together on the inside (so you wouldn’t see the glue blobs). Once that was set, I painted everything with Acrylic Paint and then I covered everything in clear packing tape to prevent any water damage (as it rains here often). I also made his trick-or-treat box (the yellow question mark cube). Again, just cardboard! I cut 5 identical square pieces, hot glued them together on the inside. Once it was all set, I painted the box with yellow and black Acrylic Paint. Once it was dry, I printed the question marks and dots from my computer (which I just found online), glued and pasted them on. Then I taped the box with clear packing tape! For the big and small wheels, I just used large poster paper from the dollar store and traced it around his wheels! I printed up lettering from my computer that closely resembled the font on the real Mario Kart car. I cut and glued it onto each wheel and then covered it in clear packing tape and taped it onto his wheelchair rim! It was such a fun costume to make and what’s even more is that he loved it!! Hope you enjoy it! :)
