This homemade costume for men entered our 2013 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Ivan, the 'Angler Fish' costume creator:
I have a tradition of bulky and difficult Halloween costumes and this one certainly fits the bill. The main body is made of an insulating blanket for a hot-water heater (essentially silvery bubble wrap). Seams were made with silver duct tape. The lantern (a replacement flashlight bulb inside a ping-pong ball) lights up using a 9-volt battery and some wires. The teeth and eyes are made from Styrofoam hemispheres (one hollow, one not), and the fins from craft foam. The tail is stuffed with bubble wrap. Halloween was rainy here and I was the only one who stayed dry going from house to house because the costume is nearly waterproof. (My legs were vulnerable, and some water got in the mouth.) It is difficult to estimate the cost of the costume because I tried to use what we already had at home, but would probably be a $40 job starting from scratch.
