A word from Tracy, the 'Oscar The Grouch' costume creator:

My two year old son, Graidyn went dressed as Oscar the Grouch for 2013 Halloween. I was determined to make the costume after seeing the idea on Pinterest, but not being able to find specific instructions on how to make it. He was a champ, and wore the costume all night long!

I would also love this for my son who is wearing 24 month clothes! If you aren't willing to sell or can't make another one, where did you get the green body suit portion?

I cut out the bottom of a trash can, wrapped it in aluminum foil, then used fishing line as straps to go over shoulders. I made the lid from cardboard and wrapped it with foil also, then glued it to the top of the head. I used tanning glasses as the eyes and tore the legs off a beanie baby for the fuzzy eyebrows. I found the bodysuit here.

Thanks for all the great comments!

What did you use to make the head ???

#10 comment by Tracy September 17, 2015

Ashley- The bodysuit came with the head. I made a cardboard 'trash can lid' and covered with foil. Glued it to the head. Used tanning glasses for eyes.
The head of the body suit is seperate from the suit and it velcros under the chin.

Where did you find white tanning glasses?

Did you get a size small for the body suit?

#13 comment by Tracy October 12, 2015

Yes, a size Small for the body suit.
Tanning glasses from a local tanning salon. They sale them for about $2.00/Pair

Love this! I am making it for my 18 month old. I never thought to use tanning glasses. I bought foam balls but they just aren't quite right. I'll have to go get some glasses. I did find the perfect material for the eyebrows at Jo-Ann's for $2. It's like a super big furry pipe cleaner. I'm having a hard time finding a trash can that would work though.

I found the perfect size garbage can at the store 'At Home'. Not sure if you have one by your house. The garbage can brand is HemiCasa.
