A word from Olivia, the 'Phoenix' costume creator:
This phoenix costume is inspired by the mythological bird of the same name. I designed and created everything except for the wig and boots. I used a variety of feathers and dyes to achieve the gradient "flame" look, and pvc and fishing line to create articulating wings that extend when I move my hands. It has a wingspan of 9ft when pulled out fully to the sides. The headpiece is sculpted from metal filigree and the chestpiece was made using Apoxie, craft foam, fabric and lace. It took a total of ~30 hours to create and $50 worth of materials.
My favorite thing about this costume is how bright all of the colors turned out. I truly feel like a phoenix when I wear it!
