This homemade costume for babies entered our 2018 Halloween Costume Contest.
A word from Ashley, the 'Hot Air Balloon Ride' costume creator:
This is my daughter Marvel who is 2 years old. We saw a similar idea online and decided to give it a go at tweaking the design. We won 2nd place at our local mall costume contest today 10/27/18.
1 plastic bin $1
Burlap $5
Wooden dowels $7
Zip ties $2
Hot glue $3
Hot glue gun $4
Felt $1
Balloon kit $5
Plastic grocery bags and newspaper
I removed the bottom of a plastic bin and covered the bin in burlap with hot glue. The 4 larger dowels are the main support. They are glued to the bin. Multiple smaller wooden dowels are the secondary support system for the balloons. Held in place with zip ties and hot glue. Burlap and hot glue were used for the straps. Felt was cut and glued into the shape of a hat for the fire to create the illusion of getting the balloon off the ground. The balloons were tied with burlap strands to the top and bottom small dowels to make them into a circular pattern. Lastly I used newspaper and brown grocery bags to make the sand bags.
This was a fun costume to make. It took a little over a week to construct. A few burns from the hot glue gun along the way. I am very proud of my work and of my daughter who made for a gorgeous model!
