A word from Abby, the 'Jolly Holiday' costume creator:
Our little baby's first Halloween! We have been so excited to make a family costume. For the Mary Poppins costume we got a floor length wedding dress from a thrift store. I hemmed it up to make it look not evillow and sewed little red bows around it. Then I took the bodice off the float party and sewed on a red corset. I cut off the nasty v neck ruffle and sewed it to look more like Mary Poppins bodice of lace. Last I took a straw had and spray painted it white and glued flowers and tulle to the hat. Next the Bert costume. I also found a white suit coat at a thrift store and took bias tape and sewed and glued strips on his jacket. Last I made my baby boys penguin costume. I made the bodice of the penguin by sewing a basic black sleeveless dress. Then adding a white felt piece and stuffing the belly and sewing it back up. I drew wings up and sewed a piece of black and white felt together and then added it to the top of the dress. I hand drew little feet and sewed two pieces of orange felt together. Put a white shirt on and black pants and you have a penguin! It was all supper easy and fun to put together.
