A word from Audrey, the 'Toy Soldiers' costume creator:
These are my 3 boys. My son Jack wanted to be a toy soldier so we thought it would be fun for all three. We had old cargo pants, but I bought the boots, belts, and jackets with big pockets and buttons from the girls section at a thrift shop. One jacket was a girl's raincoat that I tucked in the hood down the back. The mats under the boots are old puzzle floor mats. I glued those cut pieces to the bottom of their boot, but people kept stepping on them so we carried them until time to pose. The helmets were bought in the party favor section of a store for less than $2. They are flimsy but worked perfectly after painting. The weapons were their own toys around the house. It took 1/2 gallon of primer paint we had leftover from a house project and 7 cans of spray paint. They're wearing morph suits underneath. I wanted their candy bag to be part of their costume so I bought green fabric and made an army satchel which was easy because I chose fabric that does not require binding the edges. It took several days to paint and total cost spent was $120.
